Marillac Retreat & Spirituality Center
Find God, Find Yourself, Find Peace
Life has a way of crowding out what matters most. The demands of daily life—endless to-do lists, responsibilities, distractions, and the constant pull of what feels urgent—can make it difficult to pause and recognize the presence of God. Yet, beneath the noise and busyness, there is an invitation to a deeper awareness, a broader understanding of God’s abiding presence—a love that is not distant but woven into every moment, waiting to be noticed.
Marillac Retreat & Spirituality Center, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, was created to provide a sacred space offering retreatants a place of peace, prayer, and renewal.
To register for a retreat or for more information, contact us at retreats@scls.org or 913-758-6552.
Our Mission
Marillac Retreat & Spirituality Center, established in the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, provides an environment of prayer, peace, hope, and transformation.
Amid acres of trees, grassy fields, winding walkways, and sparkling fountains, you’ll find the space you need for quiet contemplation, deep reflection, rest, and renewal.
And if you’re part of a group looking for the perfect place to gather and get away, Marillac Center offers several beautiful meeting spaces that reflect the Sisters’ commitment to hospitality, stewardship, and renewal.
Named for Saint Louise de Marillac, the 17th-century Frenchwoman who, together with Saint Vincent de Paul, founded the Daughters of Charity, the Center truly embodies her commitment to prayer and loving service.
When you feel God’s loving invitation to draw closer into relationship, we invite you to schedule a visit to Marillac Center.

As July begins each year, we honor the historical beginnings of our country, the UNITED States of America. You are invited to reflect on the sacred words of the Preamble to the Constitution.

During this summertime, we continue to celebrate the graces we see in one another. Soccermania has placed Kansas City on the world stage. Like sporting events, our individual graces may be deepened, and our common good may be enhanced.

The month of June offers a new rhythm to our daily life. When we look closely, we see some of the most amazing things. Liturgically, we move from the Easter Season into Ordinary Time.

Living waters flow . . . healing and renewing land, seas, and our responsibility toward creation. Waters flow, as a tiny stream that deepens, bringing life to dead areas and restoring ecosystems. We examine Ezekiel’s call to global restoration of life, ecological healing, the interdependence of humanity and the natural world, bringing hope for both humanity and creation.

Continuing in Synodality, we listen to the voices who call us on the path of holiness in living out the Gospel call. We are wonderfully surprised to hear the voice of our Churches, our neighbors, and our own voices calling us into a deeper way of life together. And we are invited to hear Josephine Bakhita, Nichoas Black Elk, Julia Greeley, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day and Thea Bowman, people on the road to canonization.

Rejoice! Marillac Retreat and Spirituality Center marks 25 years in our current building. Created by the SCL’s as a place for prayer, peace, hope, and transformation, the Sisters share their holy ground, their stories, and charism with those who seek to grow spiritually and deepen their quest for God. On the third Tuesday of the month, we celebrate. Sr. Noreen and the Marillac team will “open wide the doors” of the Marillac Retreat and Spirituality Center for all to come and worship, rest, and rejoice! Sr. Noreen will engage us in Marillac’s history and purpose, different styles of prayer, and suggestions for revitalizing our ways of praying in today’s world. Rejoice!

During the season we are called to contemplate both life and death, we cross the sacred threshold where the spirits of the past and the pulse of the present become one in a shared celebration of life and the afterlife. It’s a day to weave together global traditions and deep prayer, inviting a fresh perspective on the holy cycle of birth, death, and the light that carries us through them all.

Rejoice! The Crow Tribe of Native Americans has long understood gratitude as a way of living in right relationship with the Creator, the land, family, and all living beings. Participants will be invited to consider how they might integrate some of these values into their own lives. The day will be informed by Sr. Sharon’s 10 years with the Crow people in Pryor, Montana.
