MINISTRY MOMENTS; Sister Barbara Aldrich

By: Bill Mayfield, Communications Intern

Sister Barbara Aldrich has been a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth for 64 years. She is the mission integration officer for the University of Saint Mary; She is also a member of the SCL health board. Sister Barbara helps students understand the mission and purpose of the Sisters with the school. One way she accomplishes this is by sharing the Vincentian mission at Spire Fire with the students and faculty.

Sister Barbara also participates in the hiring of staff and faculty for the university. During the hiring process, the most significant thing she looks for in a candidate is how they align with the mission of the Sisters and the University. The SCLs see Christian education as one of their core values and want to make sure faculty and staff will carry out the mission of the university.

Having attended USM herself, she recognizes the change in population and the multicultural diversity, which is something that Sister Barbara has been happy to see.

For anyone looking to follow a similar path as Sister Barbara, she has a few words of wisdom, “You have to start at the ground level, you have to learn…from the ground up, you have to learn from experience.”
