By Sister Noreen Walter, SCL
As we enter the month of August, it is with deep gratitude that I take leave from Marillac Center for my retirement. These past 23 years have been a blessing to me and to our guests. Our SCL Community has enabled Marillac Center to become a place of retreat and spirituality where we share our holy ground with others. Over the past years, I have welcomed many guests and groups who have come for reflection, rest, workshops, and work. I witnessed the transformation that takes place when people can come to a place to welcome the Spirit to enter their lives and their work. Our Sisters have been the prayer support for that profound welcome for our Marillac Center guests.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the support workers who have made Marillac Center outstanding. The housekeepers, food service staff, maintenance, groundkeepers, and volunteers have been outstanding in their dedication and service. Yes, it takes a village to run a retreat center.
Over these past years, I have worked with many wonderful SCL Sisters as the Marillac Center team from its beginning to now. We have grown our team to include Father Kevin Cullen, SJ. Working with a team approach has enabled us to grow and change for the better. And now, after 23 years, it is time to pass the torch on to a new director.
I am very happy to welcome Sue Robb as the next director of Marillac Center. Sue currently serves as the Pastoral Associate for Justice and Life at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Kansas City, Missouri. Sue has a deep sense of spirituality, energy for growing new programs, and a collaborative approach to leadership. She is an excellent addition to the Marillac Center team.
During the next weeks, I will introduce Sue to Marillac Center and help her with the transition. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we move into the future and continue to look forward to “the good that is yet to be.”

During this election season, we learn ways to listen and hear, to speak and encourage, to hope and help, as a way to foster and promote respect and the goodness of the other. How do I live with the well-being of others and the promotion of common values in my life?.
