The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth are pleased to welcome Stephanie Abbott as the new Associate Director of Mission. With a rich background in education and military service, Stephanie brings unique perspectives and talents to assist Director of Mission John Shively.
When asked what attracted her to this position, Stephanie’s answer revealed the alignment between her personal values and the SCL mission. “Two things that have always been extremely important to me are the Catholic Church/my relationship with God and helping people,” she explains. This role offers her the opportunity to combine these passions in meaningful ways while supporting her personal and professional growth.
Stephanie particularly resonates with the SCL view that life is sacred and that human dignity is valued in every person. She expresses enthusiasm about the Vincentian charism that guides the Community, noting, “As I get to know more and more about it, I am impressed with the dedication shown to helping those in need.” What excites Stephanie most about her new position is the opportunity to authentically bring together her faith and professional skills.
Before joining the SCL staff, Stephanie spent 16 years in education, primarily as a student advisor manager. This experience helped shape her professional identity and allowed her to apply her academic training in practical ways. Her service in the Missouri Army National Guard, including deployments to Iraq and Kuwait, further developed her character and self-understanding through challenging circumstances.
Beyond her professional life, Stephanie finds her greatest joy in her children, Bianca and Gianni. “I love being a mom and enjoy spending as much time as I possibly can with them,” she shares. She also enjoys reading during her leisure time.
