Spiritual direction provides an opportunity to nurture one’s relationship with God through individual guidance. Spiritual direction is a privileged time and place to reflect with another individual about one’s relationship with God. The focus of spiritual direction is one’s life with God as it is lived out in daily experiences.

Sister Susan, retreat coordinator of Marillac Center, completed the Souljourners program in spiritual direction in 2010 with additional study of discernment and the Spiritual Exercises through the Ignatian Spirituality Center of Kansas City and the Art of Retreat Direction at Mercy Center, Burlingame, California. She previously taught biological sciences for 30 plus years at the University of Saint Mary with a special interest in the integration of faith with scientific understanding.

Sister Karen is actively involved in spiritual direction and retreat ministry and has facilitated workshops with women’s groups. Sister Karen has a master’s degree in theology with an emphasis in spirituality. She completed the Vincentian Spiritual Directors Program in Denver in 1998. She previously taught in Catholic schools; coordinated Making Choices, a program that trained women volunteers to mentor incarcerated women; and served as a team member at Marillac Center.

Sister Judith has been a teacher, administrator, hospital and hospice chaplain, and healthcare leader in mission integration/ministry formation/ethics. She has presented widely as a reflector and story-teller. Sister Judith has a master’s degree in spirituality from Creighton University, Omaha, and advanced training in clinical pastoral education.

She holds a master’s degree in Christian spirituality with certification in spiritual direction from Creighton University, Omaha. Sister Mary Pat serves on the staff of the Souljourners’ certification program for spiritual directors in Atchison, Kansas.

Sister Mary Pat successfully completed the Souljourners Spiritual Direction Program in 2019. This program focuses on the contemplative, evocative process. Currently serving as Director of Initial Formation, she companions discerners and newer members in her congregation. In 2014, she completed the ForMission program, sponsored by the Religious Formation Conference for formators. Prior to that, she served as teacher and administrator in high schools and was a professor in the education department at the University of Saint Mary for 24 years. She is an avid reader, especially in the areas of spirituality, prayer, religious life, global concerns and social justice issues.

Sister Kathleen, a member of the Marillac Center team, and retired from teaching theology and ministry at the University of Saint Mary, brings a wealth of understanding and appreciation of Scripture and the spiritual life to share in spiritual direction. She holds a master’s degree in theology with a concentration in Scripture from Boston College and a certificate in religious formation from Saint Louis University.
