Ministry and Hope Continue in Chuschi, Peru

Hermanas de la Caridad de Leavenworth continue to accompany the people of Chuschi, Peru, through pastoral ministry and community outreach while also taking important steps to preserve a vital place of worship.

Hermana Laura Rumiche Morales reports that, “thanks to Divine Providence,” a technical report for needed repairs to the Chuschi church was completed and submitted on March 13, 2026. With this milestone reached, the community has begun fundraising efforts to restore the church’s roof and one of its towers.

In mid-March, Hermana Susana Cordova Castillo presented on a topic in a three-day training for 50 catechists from rural parishes in the southern region. The training took place at San Pedro Parish in Cangallo, a two-hour bus ride from Chuschi.

Closer to home, the Sisters continue to visit families, pray with those in need, and bring Communion to community members. At the St. Vincent de Paul dining hall, weekly gatherings provide elderly participants with a space for exercise, connection, and care.

Through each effort, whether forming catechists, visiting the sick, or restoring a sacred space, the mission of accompaniment and service remains strong in Chuschi.

On March 13, 14, and 15, training was held for catechists from the rural parishes in the southern region. This event took place at the San Pedro Parish in Cangallo, a two-hour bus ride from Chuschi.
