Community Unites to Fight Food Insecurity at Countywide Drive

Local nonprofits, churches, and food pantries joined forces on Saturday, November 15, 2025, for a countywide food drive to help families facing food insecurity in Leavenworth County. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., cars lined up at 711 Marshall Street as community members dropped off canned goods, boxed meals, and other nonperishable items to support neighbors in need.

This collaborative effort grew out of recent conversations among local organizations about the rising demand for food assistance. Instead of hosting separate collections, partners banded together for one large drive benefiting churches, nonprofits, community meal programs, and food banks across the county. The unified approach not only increased visibility but also strengthened relationships among organizations dedicated to serving vulnerable families.

While an exact total is not yet available, organizers estimate that roughly 3,000 pounds of food were collected. All donations will be distributed directly to Leavenworth County food banks, pantries, and meal sites—helping ensure families have access to essential food resources as the holiday season approaches.

The success of the event has sparked ongoing conversations about future collaborations to continue addressing food insecurity in meaningful, unified ways.
