Caring for God’s Creation | SCL/USM

Visioning & Discovery
In January, Verdis Group was on site to facilitate two workshops, conduct interviews, and get to know our facilities. These are essential components in developing our plan, and we appreciate everyone’s time and input.

Barriers & Consequences; Strategic Directions
In February, Verdis Group was on site again to facilitate two workshops identifying the risks and consequences of weather-related impacts specific to our operations and to begin thinking about strategies to achieve our vision set in January. The core project team continues to work virtually with Verdis Group on additional planning components, with the goal of completing the plan this spring.

Net Zero Pathway
Verdis Group continues to advance our Net Zero Pathway by engaging a small group of internal subject-matter experts to help shape our net-zero strategy. Net zero means cutting the pollution that warms the planet as much as possible and balancing what remains, so the overall impact is zero. As part of this effort, we are targeting a 90% reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions and establishing a multi-year implementation roadmap.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the process so far. Your contributions are helping us care more faithfully for creation and the vulnerable, who are most at risk from the harm caused by its destruction.

Courageous Action

April 15, 2026

After the resurrection of Christ, we Christians are no longer afforded the excuse of fear as a reason for inaction.
