Care of Creation Event

Care of Creation Event Inspires Students During Season of Creation 2024

Sister Mary Jane Schmitz, a volunteer at Xavier Catholic School in Leavenworth, Kansas, hosted a ‘Care of Creation’ event on Thursday, September 26, 2024, for 3rd to 8th-grade students. The event, held in the O’Shea Conference Room on the Mother House campus, featured engaging learning stations, each staffed by Sisters eager to share their knowledge and passion for the environment. Students rotated through stations covering essential topics such as the importance of recycling, the dangers of plastic waste and litter, the ecological role of trees, the monarch butterfly’s lifecycle, and the significance of water conservation.

This event, aligned with the 2024 Season of Creation theme, ‘To Hope and Act with Creation,’ not only provided valuable information but also sparked meaningful conversations about the students’ role as stewards of the Earth. Through interactive discussions, they left with a deeper appreciation for creation and a renewed sense of responsibility to protect and care for our common home. This initiative highlights the Sisters’ ongoing commitment to nurturing awareness and action in the spirit of Laudato Si’.

The event concluded on a sweet note, with Sherry Wickenhauser and Victoria Burton handing out popsicles, offering students a refreshing treat to end a day of learning.
