Centro San Vicente de Paul is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (Hermanas de la Caridad) in Piura, Peru. The multi-service center serves persons of all ages with specialization in physical therapy. Physical therapy students volunteer at the center to complete their practicum work toward their degrees. They appreciate placement at the center because of its good reputation as a learning site.
Hermana Laura Rumiche Morales is coordinator of the center and a physical therapist. She is the person in the photo above who is wearing regular clothing and not a uniform.
She shares the story of Isaiah and his progress with treatment. Isaiah, who has cerebral palsy, has been in treatment for two years. Hermana Laura attributes each small advance that the young boy makes to the perseverance of his mother and the physiotherapists who attend him and to the hand of God at work at the center. He is pictured at left with Jahaira Ypanaque Huancas, physiotherapist, who gets a smile from the young child.
Hermana Laura writes, “The hand of God is seen in Isaiah and makes us more sensitive to God’s love.”
