Family, friends and members of her SCL Community gathered on Saturday, July 27, with Sister Ann Schumacher to celebrate her 25th anniversary as an SCL. Sister Ann’s nephew and newly ordained priest, Father Stephen Schumacher, celebrated Mass in Annunciation Chapel. Sister Ann’s sister Sarah Dorhauer sang a beautiful prelude titled “The Window” accompanied by her husband Jerry . Father Stephen gave the homily; Sister Nancy Bauman, the reflection. Lunch followed in the Mother House Dining Room.

In his homily, Father Stephen said that a religious vocation serves as a witness to the world of dedication to God. This witness will bear fruit in souls that will live forever, he noted.

Sister Nancy paraphrased a poem of Sister Mary Janet McGilley and told Sister Ann that she was the occasion for the jubilee song of joy in everyone’s hearts at the celebration. Sister Nancy acknowledged Sister Ann’s ministry as a physician and her other talents. “Through your 25 years as an SCL, we have prayed for how God has done great things for us and for you,” Sister Nancy said. Sister Nancy concluded that because Sister Ann said “Yes” to the call, she is the occasion for the jubilee song.
