Assistant Coordinator of Communal Life, Motherhouse and Ross Hall

Reports To: Coordinator of Communal Life


Job Summary:
This position serves with the Coordinator in a manner that is agreeable to both the Coordinator, the Assistant to the Coordinator, and in consultation with the Communal Life Team. The assistant performs duties aligned with the mission, goals, and in the spirit of the SCL charism; helps to create an environment that fosters fidelity, charity, and hospitality.



  • Responsible for the daily operations and decision-making in the absence of the Coordinator
  • Assist the Coordinator in providing a holistic approach meeting the needs of the Sisters
  • Model a ministry of presence
  • Help facilitate community life along with the Sister residents
  • Assist in ensuring an environment that fosters a spirit of hospitality and healthy eldering
  • Participate as a member of the Communal Life Team in implementing goals established by the team
  • Assist with funeral planning as needed
  • Attend and participate as appropriate in various related meetings
  • Assist in planning and preparation for celebrations involving the local communities
  • Develop and administer a volunteer program to enhance the lives of the Sisters
  • Assist with sisters’ transitions, including packing and moving of belongings
  • Facilitate purchase of individual Sister’s needs


Position Qualifications:

  • Formal social work, theology, spirituality, and gerontology courses preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the position
  • Experience working in a geriatric and/or skilled nursing environment preferred
  • Positive experience working as a team member
  • Working knowledge of basic administrative skills
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with excellent driving record and be fully insurable

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, perform sedentary work, and walk throughout the buildings, including stairs
  • Push, pull, lift, or carry up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Stoops, bends, and reaches with arms and hands; dexterity; eye-hand coordination
  • Must have clear and understandable speech, hear well, and have vision abilities required for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions, and ability to focus
