From making jelly fish crafts to learning about composting, celebrating and preserving Earth were key themes at Earth Fest 2019 hosted on Sunday, April 28 by the Care of Creation Committee of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. Above, Sister Pat Johannsen uses a hand puppet to share her message of Earth-friendly ways to avoid the use of plastic.

Gathered around the fountain at the SCL Mother House, guests participated in a scavenger hunt to discover the uniqueness of different  trees. They enjoyed the performance by students from Xavier Catholic School who celebrated Earth in music and song. Due to the balmy and cool weather, many wore jackets, ear muffs or stocking hats, but this didn’t keep the ice cream station volunteers from scooping plenty of cones.

Sister Irene Skeehan won the drawing for a free compost bucket provided by the Green Team of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Lansing, Kan.
