Teilhard's Mysticism - Spiraling into the Cosmic Christ

Date: 8/19/2017 5:00 PM

Date Details: August 19-20, 2017

In an early essay, Jesuit paleontologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin provides us with a road map into the intensely mystical environment in which he lived and moved. He describes the stages of his mystical growth in terms of five concentric circles. These circles, which are more properly imaged as the loops of a spiral that he continually revisited throughout his life, sketch out a sacred path into an ever deepening reality, a reality that is informed as much by the science of his time as it is by his religious tradition. They help us trace his growth and development as he plunged ever more deeply into the heart of matter and into the heart of God, where he found the radiance of a loving, cosmic Person—the God for evolution.
Through input, prayer, song, film, contemplative activities, and sharing, we follow Teilhard as he travels ever more deeply from Circle to Circle into the arms of the Cosmic Christ.

Therese: A Saint of Mercy for our Violent Times

Date: 11/4/2017 9:00 AM

Date Details: November 4, 2017

Therese is a “modern saint” and a “little saint” who experienced life as we do; she shared in our difficulties and joys.
With sessions of teachings, time for reflection, opportunities for discussion and questions/answers we will explore what Therese understood by being a loving person toward herself and others.  We will consider how we might pray and respond to our imperfections as Therese did, and discuss how we might even ‘love our enemies,’ just as Therese loved the difficult nuns she lived with.

Joseph Schmidt, FSC, a DeLaSalle Christian Brother, formerly on the staff of Sangre de Cristo, an international sabbatical program, in Santa Fe, NM, is a retreat presenter, spiritual director and pastoral counselor.  He has recently served in Kenya and is presently in residence at LaSalle University, Philadelphia, PA.  He is author of Praying Our ExperiencesPraying with Therese, Everything is Grace: the Life and Way of Thérèse of Lisieux; and Walking the Little Way of Thérèse of Lisieux.
